Dimethyl carbonate, chemically C₃H₂O₃, has a molecular weight of 90.08 and is a transparent liquid at room temperature with a slight aroma. It is insoluble in water but miscible with alcohols, ketones, and esters in all proportions. DMC is an important intermediate in organic synthesis. The DMC molecule contains carbonyl, methyl, and methoxy groups, resulting in excellent reactivity. It can replace highly toxic agents such as phosgene, dimethyl sulfate, and methyl chloride as carbonylating, methylating, and methoxylating agents. PRODUCT APPLICATIONS

DMC has a low dielectric constant and viscosity. It can be mixed with diethyl carbonate in a 1:1 ratio to serve as an electrolyte in lithium-ion batteries, increasing current density and conductivity, thereby extending battery life.

DMC exhibits excellent solubility properties, a narrow melting and boiling point range, high surface tension, low viscosity, and a low dielectric constant. It also has a high evaporation temperature and a fast evaporation rate, making it suitable as a low-toxic solvent for the coatings and pharmaceutical industries.
