Ammonium Ferrous Sulfate, commonly known as Mole Salt, Mole Salt, or FAS for short, with the chemical formula Fe(NH4)2-(SO4)2-6H2O and molecular weight of 392.14, is a blue-green inorganic complex salt. Easily soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol, decompose at 100℃～110℃, can be used in electroplating.

Light blue-green crystal or powder. Sensitive to light. Gradually weathering and oxidizing in the air. Soluble in water, almost insoluble in ethanol. Relative density (d204) 1.86. Stable in air than ferrous sulfate, reducing. Low toxicity, LD50 (rat, oral) 3250mg/kg, irritating. Loses water of crystallization at about 100°C. Stable in air.

Uses

It is often used in quantitative analysis as a standard substance for calibration of potassium dichromate, potassium permanganate and other solutions, as a chemical reagent, medicine. Also used in metallurgy, electroplating, etc.

Ammonium ferrous sulfate is an important chemical raw material with a wide range of uses. It can be used as a water purifier; in the inorganic chemical industry, it is the raw material for the production of other iron compounds, such as for the manufacture of iron oxide pigments, magnetic materials, yellow blood salts and other iron salts, etc.; it also has many direct applications, such as as a mordant for the printing and dyeing industry, leather tanning industry for tanning leather, timber industry as an antiseptic, used in medicine for the treatment of iron-deficiency anemia, iron deficient soils applied to the agriculture, and used as feed additive in animal husbandry. It can be used as feed additives in animal husbandry, etc. It can also be mixed with ellagic acid and gallic acid to configure blue-black ink.
