Zinc sulfate heptahydrate (Zinc sulfate Heptahydrate) is an inorganic compound with the molecular formula ZnSO4-7H2O, commonly known as alum, zinc alum. Colorless rhombohedral prismatic crystals, white crystalline powder, soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol. Loss of water when heated to 200°C, decomposed at 770°C. It is the main raw material for the manufacture of inorganic pigments (such as zinc barium white), other zinc salts (such as zinc stearate, alkaline zinc carbonate) and zinc-containing catalysts. Used as wood and leather preservative, bone glue clarifying and preserving agent. Used as an emetic in the pharmaceutical industry. It is also used to prevent diseases in fruit tree nurseries and in the manufacture of cables and zinc micronutrient fertilizers.
